Recipe

Hook: Dry Fly Hook Size #16 - #22

Thread: Olive 6/0 or similar

Tail: Microfibbets (variation include pheasant tail)

Body: Olive/grey/tan dubbing

Post: Poly floating yarn or para post wing (variation include CDC Oilers puffs attached to post due to their natural floatability)

Hackle: Dry fly dun/brown/white

Step-by-Step

Step 1

ree

Start your thread where the post will be tied in. Tie back to the start of the bend of the hook. (I like to leave my tag end to bring it up between the microfibbets in order to keep them separated.)

Step 2

ree

Bring thread back up to where thread started.

Step 3

ree

Tie in post material.

Step 4

ree

Create a post and tie in hackle up the post.

Step 5

ree

Return thread to the back of the fly and make a thin dubbing noodle. (I prefer to use premium dubbing wax). Wrap dubbing up to in front of the post to create a tapered body.

Step 6

ree

Wind hackle down the post and tie off.

Step 7

ree

Create a small dubbing noodle to create a head and finish the fly. Tie off thread (I find a half hitch works the best).

Step 8

ree

Trim post.
