June is Women Fly Fishing Month and OWOTF and Fly Fishers International Women Connect are co-hosting events all over Ohio! Plans are coming together for Casting Improvement and Intro to Spey Casting. Sign-up’s through OWOTF will open about May 1st.
Like OWOTF, Fly Fishers International Women Connect (FFIWC) is an outreach program of FFI designed to bring in and connect women fly-fishers through education, women’s trips and events as well as encourage participation with their local fly-fishing clubs. Your local clubs can also help mentor you through your journey.
Here’s our OWOTF and Fly Fishers International Women Connect (FFIWC) events coming in June for Women Fly Fishing Month:
Casing and Casting Improvement Clinics
One of the greatest aspects of fly-fishing is the simple joy of casting. Not only is it great fun, but practice with the fly rod builds your comfort and muscle memory so that when you are out on the water and the fish are rising you can put the fly where it needs to be and get the most out of your fishing time. A basic understanding of common casting faults to look out for and how to remedy them will help you focus on improvement during your practice sessions and, over time, develop good casting skills.
Come join OWOTF and Fly Fishers International Women Connect (FFIWC) June 12th in Cincinnati/Dayton and June 19th in Columbus for Casting and Casting Improvement events.
Intro to Spey Casting with Jeff Liskay
Spey Casting is not just for Steelhead or requires a two-handed rod. Instructor Jeff Liskay will give an introduction on both two-hand and single-hand Spey casting. Jeff will show us gear and rigging and have on the water demos. Not sure what Spey Casting is? Bring your rod and join us to find out more! This introduction to Spey casting will be at a local park near Cleveland.
